Antonio Vaca: American Plumber Stories

How did you get started in the plumbing trade?
I started in the plumbing trade as a laborer. After working for the family concrete business, I wanted to commit to a trade that is not only financially rewarding but will provide job security, a sense of pride and accomplishment, and camaraderie.
What do you like most about your work as a plumber?
I love seeing the smile on customers faces once they know their plumbing problem are taken care. The sense of pride and accomplishment after a day of honest, good work is unmatchable. Not every day is the same. Some days are harder Than others, but it’s all worth it!
What advice do you have for the younger generation entering the plumbing trade?
Take the trade seriously. If you respect plumbing and put forth a little bit of pride and a little bit of effort, plumbing will be very rewarding. There will be times when most of the other trades hit a slow season. But you will still be working full days. Even if you’re just “slightly” interested, give plumbing a shot! This nation needs more plumbers.
